Founded in 2010, the VAHS MTB Series has spent more than sixteen years building one of the premier junior mountain bike race series in the United States. Known for its professional race production, competitive atmosphere, and welcoming community, VAHS provides an outstanding experience for both racers and spectators. For new riders, it is an ideal introduction to youth mountain bike racing. For experienced athletes, the Varsity category features some of the strongest junior cross-country mountain bike competition in the country.

VAHS MTB is the largest junior-only USA Cycling race series in the nation. Sanctioned by USA Cycling, the series offers competitive XCO mountain bike racing for riders of all ability levels. The series is open to all elementary, middle school, and high school students, including public school, independent school, and homeschool athletes.

Athletes earn USA Cycling points that count toward national championship qualification and staging. Over the past decade, VAHS has developed a national reputation as one of the most competitive junior mountain bike race series in the country.

Each event includes separate races for girls and boys across multiple age groups and divisions, including Lower Elementary (Grades 1–2), Upper Elementary (Grades 3–5), Middle School A & B (Grades 6–8), Freshman, Sophomore, Junior Varsity, and Varsity categories. Courses are built primarily on singletrack trails and use multiple-lap formats that create an exciting, spectator-friendly environment for families, coaches, and fans.

Riders do not need to belong to a school team or have previous race experience to participate. Whether you are trying mountain bike racing for the first time or pursuing high-level junior competition, the VAHS MTB Series offers an exciting and supportive place to race, improve, and be part of the growing youth cycling community.
